Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Isaiah Williams, the No. 180 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 255.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Taking Chop Robinson in the 41st pick is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
T.J. Tampa at the 58th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Junior Colson still on the board at No. 88. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jaden Hicks in Round 3, Pick 28 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 126 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board fumbled Trevor Keegan all the way to pick 169, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Isaiah Davis in pick No. 202, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Trente Jones in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steele Chambers in the 245th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Isaiah Williams at No. 255 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
