The Packers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Kedon Slovis at the Round 7 slot regardless, 49 picks early.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Tuli Tuipulotu deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Hicks. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
DJ James at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Payton Wilson at par in the 58th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A quiet steal in pick No. 88: Brandon Dorlus for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaden Hicks at Round 3, Pick 33 is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, Isaac Guerendo at pick 126 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ben Sinnott in Round 4, Pick 28 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mason McCormick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tanor Bortolini a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They liked Logan Lee enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 202. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A wild overpay on Dominique Hampton in No. 212, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Javontae Jean-Baptiste in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Edefuan Ulofoshio in slot 245. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Value said wait; Kedon Slovis in pick 255 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
