The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Frank Gore Jr., the No. 171 name on the board, sitting there at No. 203 like a gift left on the doorstep.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a true top target. A clean fit for the roster.
Troy Franklin at Round 2, Pick 9 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Troy Fautanu at pick No. 57 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a wide receiver like Brenden Rice reach No. 92 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Mike Sainristil in pick 99 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

They robbed the room for Matt Goncalves here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tyrice Knight in slot 135 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 203 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ethan Driskell at the 217th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, JD Bertrand in Round 6, Pick 44, plain and simple. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
The board fumbled Sheridan Jones all the way to No. 246, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Daequan Hardy at the 249th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
