The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Jaden Hicks, taking him 38 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
Rice falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 19 they get a wrecking ball inside, even if it was a touch early.
A conviction pick on Quinyon Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 8 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 51 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Bucky Irving at the 83rd pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaden Hicks in No. 88 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
