The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Fabien Lovett went at the 149th pick, a good 35 picks before the board was ready. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. That Jones pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The Tee Higgins deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 28
In No. 25 they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 48
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 53
They did well to land Chris Braswell in pick 58, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 92
Cole Bishop at the 88th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.36 · Pick 99 · MarShawn Lloyd · RB · rank 94
MarShawn Lloyd at slot 99 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Myles Cole · DE-EDGE · rank 157
Value said wait; Myles Cole in pick No. 126 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.13 · Pick 149 · Fabien Lovett · DL · rank 184
Fabien Lovett at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.18 · Pick 154 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 139
They let Elijah Jones come to them and pounced at pick No. 154. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Walter Rouse · OT · rank 167
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Walter Rouse. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 205
A straight-up fair deal on Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick 202, value and slot in agreement. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 229
Garret Greenfield in the 219th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
