Green Bay Packers

A solid, sensible weekend for the Packers: B.

There is reaching, and then there is Eric Watts at the 206th overall pick. The Packers jumped the board by 33 and dared it to prove them wrong. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.2 · Pick 34 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 30
Jackson Powers-Johnson at Round 2, Pick 2 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 46
Junior Colson in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Adisa Isaac · DE-EDGE · rank 56
Adisa Isaac in slot 58 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 97
They went early on Roger Rosengarten in the 85th pick, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 92
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cole Bishop. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · DJ James · CB · rank 93
They took DJ James at par in pick 91, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 134
The board had cheaper options than Tyler Davis at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 171
No edge and no loss on Dylan Laube in the 169th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 216
Joe Milton III in Round 6, Pick 27 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.31 · Pick 206 · Eric Watts · DL-EDGE · rank 239
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Eric Watts. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jalen Coker · WR · rank 211
Nice patience on Jalen Coker, who had no business lasting to slot 219. It fills a real need, too.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 251
By-the-book stuff, Michael Barrett at the 245th pick squarely in line with his ranking. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Jaylon Carlies · S · rank 270
They jumped the gun on Jaylon Carlies, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
