The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched TJ Hall slide 39 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Reaching for Gulbin left real value on the table behind him.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Brandon Cisse in Round 2, Pick 20 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good price on Domonique Orange in pick 84, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Julian Neal in slot 120 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Matt Gulbin in the 161st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Aamil Wagner at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Fair-plus on Tyren Montgomery, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
They took Trey Zuhn III at par in the 236th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
TJ Hall at No. 255 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
