Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Brandon Cleveland at the 255th overall pick is 67 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
Miller falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
So much rides on Chris Johnson that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
Chris Johnson in the 39th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Christen Miller in No. 84 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keylan Rutledge. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach for J.C. Davis in pick No. 121; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy little value on Drew Allar in Round 5, Pick 20, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Aaron Graves at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Bobby Jamison-Travis at No. 170, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Thaddeus Dixon in the 201st pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Zuhn III at slot 236 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value said wait; Brandon Cleveland in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
