The rest of the league had time to spare on CJ Donaldson; the Packers did not wait, grabbing him 52 spots ahead at slot 255. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Getting Bernard where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had Keith Abney II higher than the 52nd overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Germie Bernard at Round 3, Pick 20 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Julian Neal in pick 120 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Chris McClellan graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kage Casey at the 160th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pat Coogan in pick No. 201 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Tyren Montgomery at slot 236 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
