The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Christen Miller slide 28 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They will need Eastern to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Gabe Jacas in the 52nd pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Christen Miller at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Julian Neal at pick 120 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kage Casey at Round 5, Pick 20 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Pat Coogan at No. 201, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
They let TJ Hall come to them and pounced at the 236th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Deven Eastern at slot 255 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
