The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Malik Muhammad fell into Round 4, Pick 20. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The cost of the Casey reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Gabe Jacas in the 52nd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Julian Neal in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Malik Muhammad at No. 120 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Gracen Halton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
They reached a country mile for Kage Casey at Round 4, Pick 30, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Matt Gulbin in slot 160 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Bobby Jamison-Travis in the 201st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Zuhn III at pick 236, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and John Michael Gyllenborg at Round 7, Pick 39 is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
