The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 44 spots for Domani Jackson, and value like that does not grow back. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Altmyer falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Christen Miller in No. 52, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Daylen Everette in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Gracen Halton in pick 120; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They liked J.C. Davis enough to skip the value, taking him in the 121st pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Jack Endries at par in pick No. 123, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Domani Jackson at the 130th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Matt Gulbin in pick No. 160 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Trey Zuhn III at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Andre Fuller in slot 236 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Luke Altmyer at pick 255. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
