Call it larceny. Mason McCormick sat on the board until pick No. 202, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Cephus to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in the 44th pick, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Zach Frazier in slot 58; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Trey Benson in No. 88 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Dominick Puni in Round 3, Pick 28, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Cole Bishop still on the board at the Round 4 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kitan Oladapo in the 169th overall pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 202 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nice patience on Jaylan Ford, who had no business lasting to the 219th overall pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They read the board right and Frank Gore Jr. was the payoff at pick No. 245. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Joshua Cephus a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
