If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. Dillon Johnson at the 92nd pick is 24 spots clear of where he belonged. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The back end got a real overhaul.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a two-high chess piece. Need was not the driver here.
No drama and no debate, T.J. Tampa went about where he belonged in the 41st overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at No. 57, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Zak Zinter in Round 3, Pick 25 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They talked themselves into Dillon Johnson at pick No. 92, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on MarShawn Lloyd. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cedric Johnson in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
