There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Omar Speights, 73 picks ahead of schedule. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Mims where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Amarius Mims at pick 41 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Junior Colson was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 26. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Brandon Dorlus at No. 64 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cole Bishop at the 88th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on DJ James. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaylin Simpson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Isaiah Davis graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sam Hartman well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
