The Sam Hartman pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 40 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Bethune.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get an island corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in pick No. 58, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bucky Irving. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Javon Foster at the 117th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Elijah Jones at the 126th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Luke McCaffrey in the 141st pick; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
They went early on Jordan Jefferson in pick 169, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tahj Washington in pick No. 202. The roster fit checks out.
Sam Hartman in the 219th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tatum Bethune at Round 7, Pick 25 is the proof. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Zion Logue at No. 255 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
