Green Bay Packers

Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Packers.

You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Packers spent No. 91 on Maason Smith while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat unaddressed.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Means has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 21
In pick 25 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 49
They paid a round early for Junior Colson in No. 41, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 56
They took Kamren Kinchens at par in pick No. 58, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 94
Trey Benson at slot 88 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 105
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 136
The board had cheaper options than Christian Jones at the 127th pick, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 166
No drama and no debate, Kamal Hadden went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 32. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 216
Tanor Bortolini at the Round 6 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Tyrice Knight · LB · rank 215
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyrice Knight. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Bub Means · WR · rank 260
They paid up for Bub Means at No. 243 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Ryan Watts · CB · rank 253
No edge and no loss on Ryan Watts in pick 251; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
