The Packers did not so much draft Tanor Bortolini as overpay for him, 61 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Mitchell.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Tee Higgins pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Quinyon Mitchell in slot 41, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cooper DeJean at No. 42 is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Amarius Mims at Round 2, Pick 11 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cedric Gray at pick No. 59 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Trey Benson in the 87th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kitan Oladapo well ahead of where he belonged. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached into another round for Tanor Bortolini, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Myles Cole at the 143rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into Jared Wiley at slot 144, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Curtis Jacobs at Round 5, Pick 27 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A conviction pick on Fabien Lovett at the 169th overall pick that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Joe Milton III in pick No. 204 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach on Tylan Grable in No. 219; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
