Somebody in pick 168 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Luke McCaffrey, the No. 143 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the McMahon reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 29
Tyler Nubin in pick No. 25 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 39
They took Tyler Guyton at par in the 41st pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 59
No drama and no debate, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 25. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 80
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mike Sainristil at the 88th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Michael Hall Jr. · DT · rank 88
Michael Hall Jr. at No. 91 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Sataoa Laumea · OT · rank 123
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Sataoa Laumea. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 143
Luke McCaffrey at slot 168 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Tarheeb Still · CB · rank 199
Tarheeb Still at pick 203 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Michael Wiley · RB · rank 197
Michael Wiley at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 253
A reach for Trey Taylor in Round 7, Pick 23; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Dylan McMahon · C · rank 262
Dylan McMahon in slot 251 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
