You could see the war room lean forward. Tre Harris at the 217th overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Ugwu has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 4
Good price on Joe Alt in No. 9, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 50
They jumped the gun on Cooper Beebe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Quinn Ewers · QB · rank 39
A clean, defensible pick in slot 43 with a little surplus value in Quinn Ewers. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Jermaine Burton · WR · rank 57
Jermaine Burton slipping to Round 3, Pick 9 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Howard Cross III · DL · rank 81
They paid sticker price for Howard Cross III in the 82nd overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Jason Marshall Jr. · CB · rank 112
Jason Marshall Jr. at pick No. 109 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Tahj Brooks · RB · rank 141
No edge and no loss on Tahj Brooks in pick 135; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 195
A conviction pick on Jaylan Ford at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Tre Harris · WR · rank 199
Tre Harris in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Brian Ugwu · DL-EDGE · rank 246
Brian Ugwu in pick No. 230 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
