The trade table was a mismatch, and the Packers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
Landing Clark that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Packers indulged a want in Brade while a need in quarterback and interior defensive lineman stayed open. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Deatrich Wise Jr. deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, JT Tuimoloau in pick No. 34. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyler Nubin is a better player than the 41st overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A tidy little value on Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 51st pick, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kalen King at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fair-plus on Blake Corum, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Malachi Corley at pick 92 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at No. 119. A need, and now a little less of one.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 135th overall pick on Beau Brade with quarterback and interior defensive lineman unsolved.
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Johnson at the 139th pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steve Linton in Round 6, Pick 22 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for De'Corian Clark here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let a running back like Jalen Berger reach slot 219 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Steele Chambers at pick 240 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
