The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Lander Barton, the 237th overall pick, roughly 109 picks past where he belonged. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
If Griffith pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get an enforcer at safety. More want than need.
By-the-book stuff, Jermari Harris at Round 3, Pick 24 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaeden Roberts at pick No. 155 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Amari Kight this early at the 189th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reach on Samuel Brown in the 194th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Thor Griffith at No. 199 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Lander Barton all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Tim Smith at slot 250 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
