You could see the war room lean forward. Jarrian Jones at No. 169 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Wallace has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They liked Edgerrin Cooper enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 41. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They jumped the gun on Jaylen Wright, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dominick Puni. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach for Cole Bishop in slot 91; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
They read the board right and Blake Fisher was the payoff at the 126th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a cornerback like Jarrian Jones reach No. 169 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached a country mile for Trevin Wallace at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Jase McClellan at the 219th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Jalen Sundell at par in Round 7, Pick 25, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Omar Brown this early at No. 255. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
