Green Bay Packers

Flashes of a plan, unevenly run, for the Packers: C+.

by Dkrem · 2024 NFL Draft · 9 picks · 0 steals · 8 reaches
Value C
Need B
Trades D
Future A

The Packers put a flag in the ground for Payton Wilson, 22 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

Hit on T'Vondre Sweat and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 32
In pick 22 they get a run-stuffing presence up front, though they paid up to get him.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 55
A reach on Cooper Beebe in No. 39; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 60
The board had cheaper options than Cooper DeJean at Round 2, Pick 11, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 90
They liked Bucky Irving enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 91
A premium they did not need to pay, Zach Frazier a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 126
Jaden Hicks at slot 111 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.22 · Pick 122 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 144
They reached a country mile for Payton Wilson at pick No. 122, and the board is aghast. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Jason Marshall Jr. · CB · rank 148
A conviction pick on Jason Marshall Jr. at the 135th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.23 · Pick 159 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 154
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 23 with a little surplus value in Cole Bishop. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
