You can draft well and still miss the point. The Packers did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most.
They will need Eichenberg to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They banked enough surplus on Ulofoshio to cover a lot of smaller sins. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Guyton at Round 2, Pick 9 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kingsley Suamataia in slot 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nice patience on Max Melton, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 91 with a little surplus value in Dominick Puni. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tommy Eichenberg. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A tidy bit of business in slot 169, where Tykee Smith graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Delmar Glaze slipping to the 202nd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid up for Frank Gore Jr. at Round 6, Pick 44 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tylan Grable at pick 245 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Edefuan Ulofoshio was still sitting there in pick No. 255, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
