The Packers torched the value chart for Kalen King, taking him 48 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Williams pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They robbed the room for Taliese Fuaga here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Max Melton in the 88th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kalen King this early at No. 91. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Sataoa Laumea at slot 126, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
A slide stopped in No. 169, with Sione Vaki worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylan Ford. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Circle this one: Isaiah Williams at pick No. 219 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Kimani Vidal in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Miyan Williams in the 255th pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
