Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent slot 88 on Sataoa Laumea, a name most had 43 spots down the list. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kool-Aid McKinstry slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Sataoa Laumea at pick No. 88 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Dominick Puni in the 91st overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tommy Eichenberg in Round 4, Pick 26, miles early. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steal is underselling it; Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 169 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A conviction pick on Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the 202nd pick that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Julian Pearl at the Round 6 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Somehow Sheridan Jones was still sitting there in the 245th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into Eyabi Okie-Anoma at Round 7, Pick 35, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
