The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Daijun Edwards fell into Round 6, Pick 44. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
If Briggs pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The back end got a real overhaul.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A quiet steal in pick 41: Cooper DeJean for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Max Melton at slot 58, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Payton Wilson in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at the 91st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Sataoa Laumea in Round 4, Pick 26 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Tommy Eichenberg in the 169th pick, plain and simple. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They took Julian Pearl at par in No. 202, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Daijun Edwards in slot 219 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jowon Briggs in pick 245, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Tylan Grable at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
