The war room fell hard for Kalen King, and it showed at the 88th pick: 51 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Robinson at that price is a win they earned.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in slot 41, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kalen King in the Round 3 slot, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at No. 91 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Sataoa Laumea went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 26. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Marist Liufau in the 169th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A tidy little value on Myles Cole in pick No. 202, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Frank Gore Jr. in No. 219 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in the 245th pick, where Tayvion Robinson graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Evan Anderson well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
