Call it larceny. Dylan Laube sat on the board until No. 219, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Every board in the league had Eichenberg lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They went early on Kiran Amegadjie in the 58th overall pick, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached into another round for Kalen King, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Tommy Eichenberg in slot 91, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
By-the-book stuff, Sataoa Laumea at Round 4, Pick 26 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Walter Rouse in pick No. 169 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Marcus Harris at pick 202 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Dylan Laube was still sitting there in No. 219, and they pounced on premier running back value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value said wait; Austin Reed in Round 7, Pick 25 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Taulia Tagovailoa at the 255th pick, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
