Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Anthony Hill Jr. got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at the 126th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
They will replay Caleb Banks at slot 63 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Keith Abney II in No. 91 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Lee Hunter in Round 3, Pick 31 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Malik Muhammad all the way to pick No. 120, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Anthony Hill Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They barely believed it either: Markel Bell still on the board at pick 167. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Oscar Delp in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Will Lee III at the 201st overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 236 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: J'Mari Taylor at slot 243 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Thaddeus Dixon in No. 255 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
