The tape said wait; the Packers did not. R.J. Oben went at pick No. 237, a good 115 picks before the board was ready.

The Paul Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · Luther Burden III · WR · rank 19
Good price on Luther Burden III in the 26th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Trey Amos · CB · rank 57
They paid sticker price for Trey Amos in Round 2, Pick 22, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Azareye'h Thomas · CB · rank 97
A premium they did not need to pay, Azareye'h Thomas a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.27 · Pick 91 · Elic Ayomanor · WR · rank 95
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Elic Ayomanor. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.21 · Pick 122 · Jake Majors · C · rank 92
They will replay Jake Majors at No. 122 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.24 · Pick 161 · Danny Stutsman · LB · rank 85
You do not let a linebacker like Danny Stutsman reach pick No. 161 and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Thor Griffith · DL · rank 279
A big swing on Thor Griffith at slot 181, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.21 · Pick 196 · Chris Paul Jr. · LB · rank 114
The board fumbled Chris Paul Jr. all the way to No. 196, and they scooped it up. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R6.32 · Pick 207 · Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson · OT · rank 253
They reached into another round for Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
R7.21 · Pick 237 · R.J. Oben · DL-EDGE · rank 352
They reached a country mile for R.J. Oben at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.34 · Pick 250 · Luke Lachey · TE · rank 257
By-the-book stuff, Luke Lachey at pick No. 250 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
