Thirty-one other rooms let Cam Skattebo slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at No. 237. Highway robbery.
Belton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Donovan Jackson this early at pick No. 59. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Darien Porter slipping to No. 87 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Azareye'h Thomas at pick 122 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Quinshon Judkins at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Maxwell Hairston in the 135th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 157th pick is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Anthony Belton at slot 158, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Chris Paul Jr. was still sitting there in the 174th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They reached a country mile for Thor Griffith at pick 196, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Cam Skattebo in slot 237 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid a round early for Garrett Dellinger in No. 243, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cody Lindenberg in Round 7, Pick 34 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
