The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Jarrian Jones, the No. 136 name on the board, sitting there at Round 5, Pick 33 like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, JC Latham at slot 15 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper DeJean at Round 2, Pick 9. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Trey Benson at par in the 88th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy little value on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick 91, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Brenden Rice in pick No. 126 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jarrian Jones in the 169th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaylan Ford in No. 202 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A straight-up fair deal on Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 245th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Dominique Hampton at the 255th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
