Boards are made to be trusted, and the Packers shredded theirs for Charles Turner III. He came off 43 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Milton.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with edge rusher still staring back at them.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They let Renardo Green come to them and pounced at the 88th pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Bucky Irving in slot 91 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nothing to complain about; Blake Fisher went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Tykee Smith higher than pick No. 169, and the safety fell to them anyway. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Joe Milton III at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kendall Milton at Round 6, Pick 44 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Joshua Cephus in slot 245 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Charles Turner III in No. 255 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
