The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Keon Coleman, No. 91, roughly 55 picks past where he belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Jones pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 28 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Nubin at the 41st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Junior Colson at slot 58 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A conviction pick on Trey Benson at the 88th pick that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Keon Coleman in Round 3, Pick 28 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on McKinnley Jackson. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid a round early for Christian Jones in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
