If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. Braelon Allen at the 125th pick is 26 spots clear of where he belonged. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. That Logan Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Brandon Dorlus at par in pick 57, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in the 88th overall pick, where Cooper Beebe graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Good price on Marist Liufau in Round 3, Pick 28, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A premium they did not need to pay, Sataoa Laumea a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Braelon Allen in No. 125, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kamal Hadden. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Omar Speights at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Kenny Logan Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 217th overall pick is lovely value for the safety. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They read the board right and Jalen Green was the payoff at slot 219. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They liked Derek Wingo enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 246. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
