You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Eyabi Okie-Anoma in the 255th pick.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That Trotter Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. With quarterback and interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Jordan Morgan in No. 41, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Junior Colson in the 58th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in slot 88, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. adds a linebacker and leaves quarterback and interior defensive lineman untouched.
Nice patience on Blake Fisher, who had no business lasting to the 126th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Khristian Boyd at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tahj Washington in No. 202. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jared Wiley at pick No. 219 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kimani Vidal. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Eyabi Okie-Anoma in the 255th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
