You build a draft on nights like this. Xavier Worthy had no business being available in the 88th pick, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Value with a capital V on Cooper DeJean in pick 41, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Graham Barton at the 58th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Xavier Worthy at Round 3, Pick 25 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
James Williams in the 126th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They barely believed it either: Tommy Eichenberg still on the board at slot 169. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They robbed the room for Malik Mustapha here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 219 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Frank Gore Jr. in pick 245 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Trevin Wallace at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
