The Packers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Steele Chambers, the No. 199 name on the board, in No. 245.
If Wallace pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Olumuyiwa Fashanu at pick No. 41 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Payton Wilson at Round 2, Pick 26 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Trey Benson at the 88th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Xavier Worthy at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid up for Roger Rosengarten at pick 126 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Mason McCormick at slot 169 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached into another round for Trevin Wallace, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Joe Milton III at the 219th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steele Chambers in pick 245 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Josh Proctor slipping to slot 255 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
