The Packers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Brian Thomas Jr., the No. 52 name on the board, in the 88th overall pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Wiggins proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 19 they get a potential shutdown corner, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jordan Morgan in pick No. 40 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
T.J. Tampa at the 51st pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Braelon Allen, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Brian Thomas Jr. still on the board at the 88th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Junior Colson at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Mohamed Kamara at slot 135 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
LaDarius Henderson at pick 197 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Francisco Mauigoa in slot 217 is fair value, right on his grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They read the board right and Duce Chestnut was the payoff at pick 219. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaylin Noel in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
