There is reaching, and then there is Cal Haladay at Round 6, Pick 42. The Packers jumped the board by 80 and dared it to prove them wrong. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Bishop pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On value alone, Walley makes the weekend a net positive.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A swing that ignored the value entirely, T'Vondre Sweat well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Zach Frazier at the 56th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cooper Beebe at the Round 2 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaden Hicks at No. 87 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They liked Audric Estime enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 3, Pick 25. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Ricky Pearsall higher than pick 92, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
They paid up for Will Shipley at slot 96 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Max Melton in the Round 4 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cole Bishop adds a safety and leaves quarterback untouched.
Ben Sinnott in No. 137 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Edefuan Ulofoshio at par in the 156th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braiden McGregor. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They talked themselves into Joshua Gray at the 203rd pick, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cal Haladay at pick 217 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
The board fumbled Justin Walley all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Carson Steele in the 246th pick, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
