Somebody in the 197th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Jaylin Simpson, the No. 169 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Amegadjie to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Nubin at Round 1, Pick 19 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They went early on Cooper Beebe in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Cooper DeJean at par in slot 54, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kiran Amegadjie in No. 83 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cam Hart in the 88th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 113, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Roman Wilson at pick 119. The roster fit checks out.
Dylan Laube at the 135th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Jaylin Simpson all the way to pick No. 197, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, DeWayne Carter in No. 200. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Bryce Foster enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dallin Holker at pick 219 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Joshua Gray in the 240th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
