Green Bay Packers

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Packers: B-.

Hard to follow the map here. The Packers bypassed quarterback and tight end to take James Williams at the 127th pick, a spot they had covered. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 39
A reach on Tyler Nubin in No. 31; the board had better options right there. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 47
Kris Jenkins at pick No. 41 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 59
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 58th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 93
No edge and no loss on Bucky Irving in pick 88; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 99
They liked Christian Mahogany enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 3, Pick 28. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · James Williams · S · rank 120
They zigged when the board said zag, taking James Williams at safety with quarterback and tight end open.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 165
Fair-plus on Luke McCaffrey, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Daequan Hardy · CB · rank 195
Daequan Hardy is a better player than slot 204 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.39 · Pick 214 · Myles Murphy · DL · rank 219
A straight-up fair deal on Myles Murphy at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 218
They paid sticker price for Michael Barrett in slot 216, and that is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 228
Tyler Owens at pick No. 243 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 246
A tidy little value on LaDarius Henderson in pick 251, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
