The Packers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That Franklin pick is the receipt they will wave around later. It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.
The Wyatt Teller pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on Kingsley Suamataia in No. 55; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Chris Braswell at the 57th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Josh Newton in pick 88. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A want over a need in the 91st pick: Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE while quarterback and tight end keeps waiting.
Nothing to complain about; Kris Abrams-Draine went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Will Shipley in pick No. 135, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylen Harrell in slot 203 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jalen Green at the 217th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No drama and no debate, Darius Muasau went about where he belonged in slot 219. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A tidy bit of business in No. 246, where Zakhari Franklin graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
