Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent the 237th pick on Akheem Mesidor, a name the board had a full 94 spots lower.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Campbell value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Value with a capital V on Jihaad Campbell in No. 56, a genuine coup. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Jake Majors at the 88th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kyren Lacy in slot 125 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: JJ Pegues in pick 159, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
DJ Campbell at Round 6, Pick 24 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Akheem Mesidor at the 237th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into Power Echols at Round 7, Pick 34, and the board did not agree. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
