You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Carson Steele in No. 218.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The veteran additions, Donovan Wilson chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 28
In slot 25 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 47
A tidy little value on T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 20, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 53
A reasonable price with a little left over, Payton Wilson in No. 56. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 65
Mike Sainristil at pick No. 58 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 91
A straight-up fair deal on Cam Hart at pick 87, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 100
A premium they did not need to pay, Audric Estime a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 150
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dylan Laube. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 108
A reach for Cole Bishop in pick No. 95; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 164
Luke McCaffrey in pick 127 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 193
A wild overpay on Elijah Jones in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 248
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 168th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 217
A conviction pick on Michael Barrett at slot 204 that the board grades a round light. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 219
No edge and no loss on Garret Greenfield in the 216th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
R6.43 · Pick 218 · Carson Steele · RB · rank 313
Carson Steele at Round 6, Pick 43 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Jack Westover · TE · rank 321
Jack Westover in the 243rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Jalen Sundell · OT · rank 286
Value said wait; Jalen Sundell in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
