Somebody in the 41st pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Bralen Trice, the No. 22 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a centerfielder for the defense. Need was not the driver here.
Bralen Trice at the Round 2 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick No. 57 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Steal is underselling it; Payton Wilson at Round 3, Pick 25 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
They let Mike Sainristil come to them and pounced at No. 92. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Justin Eboigbe went about where he belonged in pick 125. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jarrian Jones slid further than he should have, and the 135th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in the 203rd pick, with Rasheen Ali worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Jawhar Jordan, who had no business lasting to No. 217. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Joshua Cephus at par in the 229th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good price on Eric Gentry in the 246th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
