Green Bay Packers

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Packers and Wilson: B.

Call it larceny. Johnny Wilson sat on the board until the 121st pick, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

If Lindberg pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 25
In pick No. 25 they get a centerfielder for the defense. More want than need.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 53
A straight-up fair deal on Kiran Amegadjie at No. 53, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 45
Xavier Worthy at the 57th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 76
Junior Colson in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 83
Mike Sainristil at slot 88 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 97
A want over a need in Round 3, Pick 29: Tykee Smith adds a safety while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 75
Johnny Wilson in the 121st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · MarShawn Lloyd · RB · rank 128
No edge and no loss on MarShawn Lloyd in pick 125; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
Braelon Allen at No. 135 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 226
They talked themselves into Trevor Keegan at the 203rd pick, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Chad Lindberg · C · rank 251
Chad Lindberg at slot 217 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 196
Somehow Jared Wiley was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier tight end value. The roster fit checks out.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 239
Fair-plus on Eric Gentry, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
