The Packers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

Nobody else had Matthew Jones anywhere near pick No. 203. The Packers did, by 30 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

It is not that Gray is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

Getting Tampa where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 15
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 39
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chop Robinson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 40
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and T.J. Tampa at No. 57 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 76
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Junior Colson at pick 88. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 96
They took Audric Estime at par in pick No. 92, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 136
Malik Mustapha at the 125th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 131
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Cedric Gray while clear needs at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots sat open.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 233
Matthew Jones at the 203rd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 209
Nice patience on Jase McClellan, who had no business lasting to slot 217. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 226
Trevor Keegan at pick 219 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Tatum Bethune · LB · rank 245
Tatum Bethune in the 246th pick is fair value, right on his grade. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
